"Maybe life isn't about avoiding bruises. Maybe it's about collecting scars to prove we showed up for it." -Hannah Brencher
Leah, the artist of this card, loved this quote from the moment she read it. She has a scar on her cheek from when she was an excited 5 year-old, running up the stairs in fleece socks to do a sit-up contest with her dad. Now she has a prominent scar running along her spine, the result of multiple surgeries that saved her life after a severe construction accident. She also has scars running along the upper part of her right leg where it was amputated and a long scar all the way down her left leg from transplanting a vein.
Scars tell a story. Some of them can be seen, some are invisible. They all count. And they're all beautiful because they signal the fact that you survived, that you showed up for life.
